CAMOGIE
Hard Luck to our U12 Red Squad who lost the U12A County Final by the narrowest of margins, 1-5 to Tramore’s 1-6. A great battle as always between two evenly matched sides, with great skills & talent on show right up to the final whistle.
Congratulations to our opponents on the win and well done to the referee Taylor on a fine game. Many thanks to all our u12 girls & mentors on both the red & white squads for all the hard work, effort & commitment shown throughout both u12 campaign’s. As always, many thanks to the parents & supporters for following us everywhere. The girls can now look forward to the u13 & u15 league starting shortly.
Hard luck to our U14 red squad who lost out 1-5 to 4-3 in their A semifinal game v Butlerstown, on Thursday night in a doubleheader of camogie in Gracedieu. SONNY WALSH
It was a privilege for the Club to host the Sonny Walsh Tournament in Gracedieu. Waterford had two teams participating and well done to Conor Treacy (Team 2), Jack Mullally (Team 1) and Alan Fitzgerald (Management Team 1). Congratulations to Conor and Team 2 Squad who were crowned Sonny Walsh Cup Champions in Gracedieu on Saturday beating Wexford 3-12 to 0-7. Hard Luck to Jack , Alan and Team 1 squad, who lost out to Kerry in the Sonny Walsh Shield. Sonny represented Waterford at all ages winning a National League medal and All Ireland Runners Up Medal in 1963. He served as Chairman and Secretary of the Club and was a founder of the original Tony Forristal Tournament. He died suddenly in 1983, at the young age of 39 at our Cleaboy grounds, while training our Minor Team. Waterford winning the Cup was a great way to remember Sonny in 2023.
GAA
Well Done to U8 hurler of the week, Jake Moore. Great stuff Jake & all the squad, keep up the good work.
Well done to our U9s who played two great games v Clonea at half time in the Senior win over Clonea. Great skills on display boys, we’re all so proud of ye.
Well Done to our Minor Hurlers who beat Lismore 1-14 to 0-14 v Lismore, in the Div 1 Plate Semi Final.
Great performance by our Junior Hurlers to beat Ballygunner 2-18 to 3-11 in the Junior B Semi Final, well done lads!
Our Seniors earned their semi-final place after a 2-21 to 0-22 win over Clonea in Carrickbeg, with a great Club support in attendance. We had a great start with Jack Twomey netting his third goal of the championship within three minutes, closely followed by Keven Moran setting down his intending influence on the game with a point. Clonea battled all the way, but Eddie Meaney stepped up to the mark, catching Shaun O’Brien’s puckout to make a super run to finish with a another goal and give us a 2-9 to 0-11 lead at the interval. Although Clonea hit regular scores, a focused Reuben and Tonto saw us prevail with a scoreline of 2-21 to 0-22. Jack Twomey 1-01, Kevin Moram 0-3, Eddie Meaney 1-01, Reuben Halloran 0-10 (9 Frees), Jack Fagan 0-2, Thomas Douglas 0-2, Cormac McCann 0-2. We now face Roanmore more in the Semi Final at 230pm in Walsh Park on Sunday 3rd September at 230pm. See you there!
