County Minor Football Championship
We began our Minor football championship season with a trip to Rathgormack on a very wet and windy morning on Sunday last. With a lot of rain falling over the previous few days the pitch was very heavy and with a gale of wind blowing directly into one end of the pitch we knew it was going to be a game of two halves.
We won the toss and elected to play against the elements and after five minutes we opened the scoring admittedly against the run of play with a well taken goal by debutant Dan Lye. Unfortunately from then on Rathgormack slowly began to get to grips with the game and after some stout defending we came in at half time with a mountain to climb in the second half.
Having lost both Flynn’s, Luke and Sam before the short whistle our task grew even more challenging but to be fair to the players they never gave up and fought gallantly right to the end and great credit is due for their efforts. Best on the day were Seán Carton, Dan Casey, Donal Carey, Eoin Treacy and Ciaran Corrigan as well as Kevin Hennessy who scored some good points from free kicks.
Up next on Sunday 12th March are Ballinacourty in Gracedieu @ 11.30am. Please come along and support our first adult team involved in championship this season.
Panel: Donal Carey, Seán O’Keefe, Seán Carton, Seán Connolly, Sam Flynn, Conor Giles Doran, Ciarán Corrigan, Peter Grogan, Luke Flynn, Dylan Finn, Kevin Hennessy, Dan Casey, Stephen Power, Eoin Treacy, Dan Lye, Liam Coad, Colm Maher, Lorcan Dwyer-Sheridan.
