County U-16 Division 2 Football Championship

Our U-16 football team had mixed fortunes in the past week. We were beaten by an excellent Dungarvan side on Monday last on a score of 4-11 to 3-3. This was a game where our lads put in a tremendous effort but in the end were beaten by the better side. On Friday we got a walkover from Clann na Gael

On Sunday morning we played Cois Bride in Cleaboy and won on a score of 2-13 to 2-8. This was a very good game contributed in a large part to our excellent opponents. We led at halftime by five points 1-6 to 1-1 with our goal coming from Conor Walsh. We started the second half against the wind and arguably the defining score of the match came shortly after the break when Niall O'Keeffe goaled after a tremendous run. The rest of the game was excellent as both sides exchanged points. We went seven ahead before our opponents goaled to set up an exciting finish. However a further point by us saw us win by five. This was an excellent game between two sporting sides.

Scorers: Niall O'Keeffe 1-5, Conor Walsh 1-0, Lorcan Kerry 0-3, Harry Lawton 0-2, Alex Keane, Conor Murphy and Eamonn Brosnan 0-1 each.

Panel: Sean Treacy. Aaron Wymberry, Shane O'Neill, Daire O'Keeffe, Niall O'Keeffe, Dean Casey, Conor Walsh, Harry Lawton, Darren Kenneally, Lorcan Kerry, Neil Madigan, Conor Murphy, Rueben O'Halloran, Eamonn Brosnan, Alex Keane, Nathan Finn, Josh Kelly, Daire Treacy.

Well done to the Ursuline School Waterford who won the O'Neill's Post Primary Schools Junior B All Ireland Final played in Freshford Co. Kilkenny on Saturday 18th March. Final Score : Ursuline Waterford 3-16 (25) Banagher Offaly 1-4 (7). DLS camogie club girls Abby Flynn played superbly at half forward scoring 1-3 winning the player of the final award and Lucy Hogan shone at full back. DLS clubman Conor O'Toole was also a mentor-teacher. A great achievement by all.

It is fantastic to see that three schools in the Waterford City area Ursuline, Mercy & Presentation Secondary Schools have contested All Ireland Schools Finals in the last few years. Keep up the good work everyone.
