County U-14 Division 2 Football Championship

De La Salle 3-8 Mount Sion 2-4

Ourselves and our near neighbours had the relatively unusual experience of playing each other at Gaelic Football at their ground on Thursday evening last. Although unusual to be competing in the big ball both sets of players are to be commended for producing an excellent game of football at this level.

We started the brighter and lead by two points to no score. However Mount Sion levelled matters pretty quickly and both sides were very evenly matched. We goaled just before halftime and Mount Sion responded with a point to leave De La Salle leading 1-2 to 0-3 at the interval.

Our hosts started very brightly in the second half and a quick point and a goal from the penalty spot saw them lead 1-4 to 1-2. At this stage we started to gain some possession in the middle third and three excellent points and a well worked goal saw us lead by seven. Mount Sion's excellent corner forward scored a fantastic goal to reduce the margin to four. However our lads scored an unanswered 1-1 to run out winners. This game marked the debut of Daniel Lawlor at this age group.

Our game with The Nire fixed for Monday last did not take place. This competition is reaching the knockout phase with a semi final place still a possibility for our lads.
