County Senior Hurling Semi Final

De La Salle 1-13 Passage 3-6

An injury time point by Jack Fagan saw our senior hurlers qualify for our first county final in five years when we defeated a gallant Passage side in Walsh Park last Sunday. This was a game played in tough conditions and great credit to both sides for producing a contest that went down to the wire. We recovered from a poor start, in which we lost Ian Flynn to injury and also saw Kevin Moran restricted by a knock, to be level at half time before opening up a second half four point lead. However, back came Passage to equalise from a penalty before Jack Fagan’s late score.

Passage opened the scoring in the first minute but Shane Ryan equalised immediately. Passage restored their lead in the fourth minute and goaled two minutes later as we lost Ian Flynn. Jake Dillon pointed in the 10th minute and two injury stoppages involving Kevin Moran resulted in no further score until the 19th minute when Jake pointed again. John Mullane pointed in the 21st minute but a defensive error saw Passage goal in the 25th minute despite the best efforts of Shaun O’Brien who saved the initial shot but was helpless with the rebound. John Mullane pointed in the 26th minute but Passage replied immediately to make it 2-3 to 0-5. Tom Moran pointed from distance in the 28th minute but again Passage replied. A great run through the middle by Kevin Moran ended with him finding the net and an injury time point by John Mullane saw us go in the half time level at 1-7 to 2-4. Kevin Moran, now operating at full forward put us ahead on the restart with Passage equalising in the seventh minute. Kevin Moran restored our lead a minute later and two Shane Ryan frees after fouls on Eoin Madigan and Eddie Barrett in the 13th and 20th minutes followed by another Kevin Moran point had us ahead 1-12 to 2-5 with nine minutes left. Passage pointed in the 24th minute and got a lifeline in the 30th minute when they were awarded a penalty which was expertly dispatched to the net. With extra time looming in the growing darkness up stepped Jack Fagan to be the hero with a 32nd minute point. Passage had one last chance to save the game but we cleared the danger and the full time whistle sounded.

Scorers: Kevin Moran 1-3, Shane Ryan (0-2 frees) and John Mullane 0-3 each, Jake Dillon 0-2, Tom Moran and Jack Fagan 0-1 each.
