East Intermediate Hurling Championship
Erins Own 1-17 De La Salle 1-13
Our intermediate hurlers began their campaign with a four point defeat by Erins Own in Walsh Park last Saturday. Fielding a young team we gave debuts to four minors, Lorcan Dwyer-Sheridan, Sam Flynn, Seaghan Walsh and Kevin Hennessy, who all acquitted themselves well and we wish Lorcan a speedy return to action having been forced to retire injured in the second half. Erins Own opened with a pointed free inside the first minute but the impressive Kevin Hennessy equalised immediately after a strong run from Adam Doyle. Erins Own took control then and by the 12th minute had opened up a lead of 1-4 to 0-1. A double exchange of points involving Dylan Foley and Evan Whelan made it 1-6 to 0-3 after twenty minutes. We were back in the game a minute later when Seaghan Walsh found Kevin Hennessy and he goaled. Erins Own replied with a point before Brian Cunningham converted a free after a foul on Kevin Hennessy. Erins Own pointed again but we replied through a Brian Cunningham free after a foul on himself and Lee Wall to see us trail 1-8 to 1-6 at half time.
Erins Own opened the second half scoring but we replied with points from Brian Cunningham and Kevin Hennessy. We were level in the eight minute when Brian Cunningham pointed a free for a foul on Seaghan Walsh. Brian Cunningham put us ahead a minute later but Erins Own levelled matters in the 12th minute. David Greene restored our lead in the 14th minute and two further points from Brian Cunningham after fouls on Kevin Hennessy and Dylan Foley had us ahead 1-13 to 1-10 after sixteen minutes. However, that was as good as it got as three Erins Own points had it all square by the twenty sixth minute and they went ahead in the 29th minute. They added three points in injury time to finish the stronger and claim the points.
Scorers: Brian Cunningham 0-7 (0-5 frees), Kevin Hennessy 1-2, Dylan Foley, Evan Whelan, Lee Wall and David Greene 0-1 each.
