County Senior Hurling Championship
De La Salle 1-10 Dungarvan 0-13
Our senior hurlers secured a quarter final place after a hard fought draw with Dungarvan in sun soaked Walsh Park last Friday. The draw was probably the fairest result in a game which saw both sides reduced to fourteen players in the second half and the point gained was enough to see us top the group.
Eddie Meaney opened the scoring inside the first minute and despite a second point from Kevin Moran we found ourselves trailing 0-5 to 0-2 after ten minutes. Shane Ryan pointed in the 12th minute and we were in front two minutes later when Eddie Meaney struck for the only goal of the game. Adam Farrell increased our lead in the 15th minute before we stopped for a water break. Two Dungarvan points in the 26th and 27th minutes levelled matters before Eddie Meaney’s shot for goal carried over the bar. Kevin Moran increased our lead from a free after he was fouled before Dungarvan replied with a point. A foul on Adam Farrell saw us awarded a penalty but it was saved by the goalkeeper to leave us ahead 1-6 to 0-8 at half time. Kevin Moran pointed a free after another foul on himself in the fifth minute and Shane Ryan made it a three point game with a long range free in the 13th minute. Points in the 17th and 19th minutes for Dungarvan reduced the lead to the minimum before Cormac McCann set up Adam Farrell for a point in the 20th minute. Dungarvan pointed a sixty five before Paidi Nevin got our final score in the 22nd minute. However, points in the 28th and 30th minutes secured the draw for Dungarvan.
