County Minor Hurling Championship

De La Salle 3-14 Mount Sion 1-10

Our minor hurlers began their season with a victory over an understrength Mount Sion team in Gracedieu last Tuesday. This was a good win given that we played most of the second half with fourteen men. However, with our lead at only two points, this decision seemed to spur us on and helped by three goals we secured the points.

Three points from Aidan Gannon and one from Sam Flynn helped us to a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after twelve minutes. Dylan Finn got the game’s first point from play a minute later. A Sam Flynn sixty five and three Aidan Gannon frees helped us to a 0-9 to 0-5 half time lead. Mount Sion pointed from the throw in and converted a free in the seventh minute after the sending off. We responded with Dylan Finn being fouled in the 12th minute and Seaghan Walsh goaling from the resultant penalty. In the 15th minute Reuben Halloran collected a Colm Maher clearance and raced through the defence before expertly finishing to the net. Kevin Hennessy then scored an excellent point in the 18th minute. Mount Sion added points either side of an Aidan Gannon free before Dylan Finn got the goal his performance deserved to make it 3-11 to 0-9 after twenty five minutes. Aidan Gannon added two frees before Mount Sion goaled from a free. Kevin Hennessy ended our scoring with a point from distance in the 32d minute and Mount Sion replied a minute later to end the scoring.

Scorers: Aidan Gannon 0-9 (frees), Dylan Finn 1-1, Seaghan Walsh (penalty) and Reuben Halloran 1-0 each, Sam Flynn (0-1 free, 0-1 ‘65) and Kevin Hennessy 0-2 each.

East Intermediate Football Championship

Tramore 1-9 De La Salle 1-3

A poor performance by our intermediate footballers saw them defeated again by Tramore in Tramore last Friday. With only five players from our championship winning side of 2013 lining out we have several young inexperienced players playing who hopefully will progress at this level. While Tramore were the better team and deserving winners we did not help ourselves by failing to convert three scoreable frees on a night we struggled to create chances.

Playing with the breeze Tramore kicked three points between the third and sixth minutes. We were level a minute later when Aidan Gannon found Eddie Meaney and he set up John Mullane to finish to the net. Tramore regained the lead in the 15th minute but Thomas Kearney equalised a minute later after good work by Sean O’Keeffe. Tramore were back in front in the 20th minute when they got in for a goal and they added points in the 21st and 24th minutes to lead 1-6 to 1-1 at the break. It got better for them with two further points in the first two minutes of the second half. There was no more scoring until the 18th minute when Tramore pointed a free to make it 1-9 to 1-1. John Mullane got our first score in over half an hour when he pointed a minute later and he ended the scoring in the 22nd minute when he took over the free taking and converted after Thomas Kearney was fouled.

Scorers: John Mullane 1-2 (0-1 free), Thomas Kearney 0-1.
