U-12 A County Championship Final. DLS 6-6 (24) Gailltir 5-5 (20).
Pride of place this week goes to our U-12 girls who captured our third U-12 A County Title since our camogie clubs formation in 2009. The other 2 titles were won in 2010 & 2011. This final was played in Fraher Field Dungarvan on Sunday in front of a very large attendance. We were slow to start this game and trailed throughout the opening exchanges going in at the half time whistle 4 points down on a scoreline of 3-4 (13) to 2-3 (9). Our mentors rallied the troops at half time and the girls came out flying in the second half clawing back the deficit and then pushing on to take the lead. Our opponents kept coming back but our girls held on to run out deserved winners at the final whistle. The trophy was presented by the Waterford Camogie County Board Chairperson Ita Murphy to our U-12 club captain Sarah Sheehan.
Sarah thanked her team mates for the fantastic commitment shown all year, the team mentors Brendan Boland and Trevor Whelan, first aid Paula Connolly. Sarah also thanked the County Board and also praised our opponents Gailltir for a tough sporting game and gave them 3 cheers. Many thanks to all our supporters who showed up to the final and cheered on the team from start to finish, much appreciated. Afterwards in the dressing our club girls presented our captain Sarah with a signed DLS jersey as this was Sarah's final U-12 game before she moves to Carlow. Well done Sarah for all the hard work, commitment, laughs (even though there was plenty of tears flowing lol. in the dressing room after the game) shown on the various squads down through the years. Our loss will be your new clubs gain but many a challenge game can be arranged.
