- East Intermediate Football Championship
Kill 4-12 De La Salle 1-8
Our intermediate football team exited the championship when we were well beaten by Kill in Walsh Park last Sunday evening. Once again, the damage was done in the first half when the concession of three goals in six minutes ended the game as a contest and even though we improved in the second half we were unable to make any inroads into the winners margin
Kill began well and led 0-5 to 0-0 after ten minutes but were thankful to their goalkeeper who saved well in that period. Thomas Douglas opened our account in the twelfth minute but Kill replied with three points as we continued to miss the few chances we created. Paddy Kennedy pointed a free in the 21st minute after a foul on Mitchell Casey but Kill replied immediately with their first goal. Eddie Meany scored a fine point and we then missed a free before Kill got their second goal. A well worked free between Paddy Kennedy and Mitchell Casey saw Mitchell’s shot for goal go over off the crossbar and Kill then struck for their third goal to lead 3-8 to 0-4 at the break.
The second half began with Kill pointing and Thomas Douglas replied in the fifth minute. Kill added 1-2 in the next ten minutes to make it 4-11 to 0-5. David Kennedy pointed in the 17th minute and a minute Kill got their last score.
Conor Mullane pointed a forty five in the 23rd minute and then James Grogan scored a cracking goal. A fine save by the Kill keeper saw Conor Mullane end the scoring in the 28th minute when he converted another forty five.
Scorers: James Grogan 1-0, Thomas Douglas and Conor Mullane(‘45s) 0-2 each, Paddy Kennedy (free), Eddie Meaney, Mitchell Casey and David Kennedy 0-1 each.
