INTER COUNTY

Another fantastic performance from our Clubmen Shane McNulty, Jake Dillon, Kevin Moran & Jack Fagan in the All Ireland Quarter Final to secure us an All Ireland Semi-final place. It was a fantastic & inspiring performance from the whole Waterford team and a big well done to Shaun O’ Brien on the extended panel too. We were out of the blocks quickly and set the pace in a game that saw us rewarded for the intense work rate. Jack was probing in attack assisting in an early Bennet point before side stepping the Clare keeper for his first Championship goal  from a superb Hutchinson pass. Fagan’s direct attacks, taking on the Clare defence towards goal resulted in a free and point from Aidan McCarthy before later in the second half taking a superb point from the side-line, bringing his tally to a goal and a point. Jake had a superb physical presence, winning great ball whilst covering huge ground and often providing good accurate distribution switching play under pressure such as the space he found middle of the field for a diagonal pass to Hutchinson to finish for a point and another to Bennet for a point also. Shane was as solid as ever in defence with some great defending, dispossessions and turnovers with accurate passes including one to Bennet to finish from the middle of the park. He also was confident with two close scoring attempts. Kevin was outstanding in the half back line calmly taking possession under pressure with some great catches and passes. He was often seen extending a calm mature influence on the full back line when under pressure and was core to Waterford’s’ defensive system.  Our Club men battled proudly for us and we look forward to the South East derby with the Cats next week. CONDOLENCES

The Club would like to extend deepest sympathies to Abby Flynn & her family on the death of her Grandad, Martin Tobin. Abby’s Grandad Martin, was on our 1954 County Junior Hurling Championship winning team.
