AGM
Our Club AGM was held online on the evening of the 14th December 2021, with a large attendance. Noel Dalton Honorary President extended the welcome to everyone on behalf of the Club .
SECRETARY'S REPORT
Paul Keane reflected on many of the Club's activities and achievements, on and off the field in another very different and sometimes difficult year.
Congratulations were extended to our 6 county representatives, Kevin Moran, Jake Dillon, Jack Fagan, Shane McNulty, Shaun O’Brien and Thomas Douglas, on their involvement with the Waterford Senior Hurling Team who reached the All Ireland semi-final only to fall to eventual Champions Limerick with a special mention to Kevin Moran who retired after 16 years of inter county service. The representation in Minor Hurling of Conor Keane, Jack Twomey, Daniel Lawlor, Kieran Kennedy and Conor O Shea with Ray Murphy as selector and U20 representation of Reuben Halloran were all complimented.
Our grounds in the Cleaboy and Gracedieu continue to be kept in pristine condition and Billy O’Neill, Doc Dalton, Danny O’Byrne, Christy Russell and John Galgey were all acknowledged and praised for their work. A special mention also went to Michael Murphy and John Kelleher for all their help over the years and a special word of thanks went to Noreen Cotter and Maureen Keane for all their efforts on the Deise draw.
The Club Lotto which is run on a fortnightly basis is a vital source of income for the day to day running of the club and everyone who contributes by selling tickets, helping to deliver books etc. and to the committee for all their ongoing hard work were thanked. The lotto would not be possible for the excellent work of Johnny Walsh, Olivia Russell, Charlotte Brenner and James ‘Dano’ O Shea. A special mention was extended to Seaghan Walsh who along with Johnny kept the draw going during lockdown. Also a very special word of thanks was extended to Tommy Ryan for all his hard work with the on-line section of the lotto.
Eddie Mulligan was thanked for his as club PRO as were Ellen Sheehan & Tommy Ryan for their support keeping our members always informed throughout the year on the club’s events, matches and day to day news on social media and Clubzapp.
It was announced that our plans are well on target with the installation of floodlighting and ball stop netting scheduled for this year. 2021 saw two additions to the project in a 50m astro- turf running hill and a 400m walking/jogging track around the training pitch with the support of Waterford Council acknowledged for the grant towards the track.
The outgoing Senior management team of Bryan Phelan, James Quirke, Mark Cooney, Ian Flynn, Derek McGrath and Donal Treacy were thanked for all their hard work and commitment and wish them well in future endeavours as we overwhelmingly defeated Ballysaggart in a relegation battle to maintain senior hurling for 2022. Also special thanks to the backroom team of Micko Casey, Michael Sullivan and Joe Kenny as physios. Alan Duke for team logistics and Ricky Grogan on hurleys and water and everything in between. Also, special mention to Lorraine Duke who maintains the jerseys so well for us all year round.
Our Intermediate Hurlers had a season to be proud of and with a bit more luck could have been County Champions and thanks was extended to the players Manager Alan Fitzgerald and his backroom team of Eddie Barrett, Matthew Barden and Leon Mullaly for their efforts. The Intermediate Footballers had a great campaign also losing out narrowly to County Champions Portlaw. Thanks were extended to Kenneth Byrne and his backroom team who looked after the team this year and to our first aid Joe Kenny and Michael Casey. Our Junior B Team progressed to the Eastern Final losing out to Ballygunner on a score line of 1-11 to 0-18. Thanks were extended to manager Paudi Brosnan and his backroom team of Lee Casey, Luke Lalor, Fergal O Brien, Willie Power and Johnny Walsh for their efforts. The Under 20 Hurling Championship saw us defeat St Olivers/Clashmore in the County Final and thanks were extended to the management team of Ian Flynn, Bryan Phelan, Lee Casey, Paudie Brosnan & Peter Hearne, Joe Kenny as physio and Donal Treacy as S&C. Our minor hurlers faced Ballygunner in the County Final and despite a very close encounter with teams being level several times, we lost out 0-15 to 0-10. Thanks were extended to the management team of Mark Douglas, Paudi Brosnan, Lee Casey, Denny O Connor and Jake Dillon. Donny Lawlor on first aid. In the Minor Football Championship, we were defeated by eventual County Champions Roanmore 3-07 to 3-02 and appreciation was extended to the management team of Mark Douglas, Paudi Brosnan, Lee Casey, Denny O Connor and Eddie Mulligan with Donny Lawlor on first aid.
Our Camogie Club continues to go from strength with the senior team reaching the County Final for the second time in our short history. Well done to the entire panel, management team of Conor O’Toole, John Mullane, Stewart Murphy, Joey Carton, Derek Healy, and the first aid and backroom team. At underage level, the foundations are being laid with numbers growing significantly at all ages.
The highlight of the year at underage was the success of our u16A team in capturing the A division with a tremendous display in defeating a very good Gailltir team with most of the same players figuring on the Minor team which defeated Tramore recently in a very tough minor final. Our u14C team captured our third county final defeating near neighbours and rivals Mount Sion while our Under 12A team were defeated in the county final by Gaill Tír. A huge Thanks to all the players, coaches and sideline teams. Our Intercounty Representatives in Senior Camogie: Beth Carton, Brianna O' Regan, Keeley Corbett Barry, Abby Flynn, Niamh Murphy in Junior Camogie and on Minor Camogie Alanah McNulty were all acknowledged and commended.
Eddie Mulligan & Joey Carton were complimented on their work initiating the Community Committee in 2021 and the new Committee of Chair Suzanne Wymberry, Trevor Clooney, Ricky Grogan, Deirdre Byrne, Fran O' Callaghan, Lisa Mullaly, Jake Dillon, Beth Carton, Eddie Mulligan & Don Lawlor has seen some great initiatives brought to bear including DLS Babies, #ShakeUrSalle, Tales from DLS, Outdoor Seating improvements, Wednesday Night Complimentary Refreshments, 'Under The Clock' mobile Coffee, GAA Green Club, Reduction of Single Use Plastics, Healthy Clubs & Minds with Walking Event with Ricky Grogan, Running with Frank Quinlan, Yoga with Bridget Tubritt, Rounders with Kieran Wymberry, Mamogie with Don Lalor and Indoor Football with Jake Dillon.
The Secretary's report concluded thanking all our sponsors John Kelly Opel, Netwatch Ireland and those who supported the club through Advertising, Sponsorship, Lotto, Déise Draw, Gracedieu Scheme, Fundraising etc. All those who have gone before us and members of the club who suffered bereavement over the last twelve months were all offered our heartfelt sympathies.
TREASURERS REPORT
The treasurer's Report was presented by Tom O' Leary & Joey Carton who emphasised how the Donations Scheme and Club Lotto is vital to our running of the Club and how we will definitely need additional fund raisers in 2022. They also commended the voluntary ethos of so many in the Club, without whose support we would not be able to survive Financially.
CHAIRPERSON ADDRESS
Our Chair Seamus Quirke, recounted many of the year's highlights and extended a vision for the future whist commending all Club Members for their support ensuring teams of all ages are fielded in every corner of the County. He thanked all Club Members for their efforts on the field and off the field.
