TONY FORRISTAL/SONNY WALSH TOURNAMENTS
Well Done to all the Waterford Squads participating but especially Conor Power, Shane Power, Darragh Doyle, Toby Ryan & Darragh Keane doing the Club proud. Well Done to all teams who participated in the Sonny Walsh Tournament but especially, the winners Rebel Óg. Thanks to the Community Committee for providing a shop & refreshments and huge well done all the field maintenance volunteers on Gracedieu looking so good, especially the pitches. As we remember the great Sonny Walsh, another great Walsh family Club man, Johnny Walsh presented the trophies.
CAMOGIE
A huge well done to our U10 girls who participated in a blitz in Portlaw GAA on Saturday. They played 3 excellent games against the hosts Portlaw, Tallow and St. Mollerans. Thanks so much to Portlaw for hosting a great morning. There was a very high standard of Camogie from all 4 teams and thanks to all the parents for getting the girls there so early on a Saturday morning. Well done girls and mentors.
Well done to our u8 girls who were also playing in Portlaw. Keep up the good work girls.
Well done to our U14 red squad girls who had a great encounter Friday in Gracedieu against Modeligo in the U14A Quarter Final & just narrowly came out on top at the final whistle. A good game of skill & commitment from both teams. Well done to both teams, mentors & supporters. The Semi Final v Gailitir is on Thurs 1/9/22 at 630pm in Gailitir.
Our Senior Girls are also out v Gailitir at 7pm Friday 2/9/22 in Gracedieu. Our Junior Girls are home to Abbeyside in Cleboy same night, Fri 2/9/22 at 7pm.
Hard Luck to our U16 Girls as they went down to Tramore 0-6 to 2-10 in the U16A County Final. It just wasn’t our day, but the girls gave it everything and did us proud. Congrats to Tramore.
GAA
Our St Declan’s & St Stephen’s St boys had a great morning, back training in the College Field Saturday. A well-deserved player of the week presentation to Huw Morgan, took place too. Keep up the great work boys, coaches & mentors. Our 15 Hurlers had a nice narrow win 3-13 to Ballyduff Upper’s 2-15 last Monday in the Championship Group stage.
In the Minor Hurling Championship Semi-Final, our Minor Hurlers stayed focused all the way to beat Mount Sion 3-11 to 1-13. It was great to see so many Club Members, families and juvenile players supporting the Minors in Walsh Park and we have another day out as we look forward to, the County Final v Ballygunner on Friday 2/9/22 at 6pm in Walsh Park.
Hard Luck to our Junior Hurlers who went down 2-13 to Mount Sion’s 2-22 in the East Waterford Junior B Hurling Championship Semi- Final. Unlucky Lads, great battle to the end.
Well Done to our Senior Hurlers on advancing to the County Senior Semi Final as we overcame Dungarvan in a fast paced first half and a very physical second half, 2-24 to 1-20. We led 15 points to 13 at half time having put over nine points in a row to bounce back from four points down. A great save by OB in the second half saw him at full stretch to save before a Tonto goal to make no doubt about the result. Great team performance with scores coming from Tonto & Reuban 1-5 each. Jack Fagan 0-4, Eddie Barrett, Brian Cunningham, Eddie Meaney & Kevin Moran 0-2 each with Cormac McCann and Shane McNulty 0-1 each. The Senior Hurling Semi Final, v Mount Sion, is fixed for Sunday 4th September at 315pm in Walsh Park.
