County Senior Hurling Championship
De La Salle 4-20 Dungarvan 3-17
Our senior hurlers made it two wins in a row when we had six points to spare over Dungarvan in a high scoring game in Fraher Field last Friday night. This was a good performance in what turned out to be a very open encounter. The foundation was laid in a half back line of the outstanding Shane McNulty, Kevin Moran and Stephen Daniels and with our full forward line of man of the match Shane Ryan, John Mullane and Eoin Madigan contributing 4-7 from play we now go into the inter county break in positive mood.
We opened the scoring in the second minute when Shane McNulty converted after David Greene was fouled having hit three wides beforehand. Dungarvan equalised in the fourth minute but a minute later good play by Eddie Barrett, Eoin Madigan and Dylan Foley created the chance for John Mullane to goal with a fine strike. Dungarvan pointed but Shane Ryan replied after a foul on Jack Fagan. It was all square in the ninth minute when Dungarvan goaled. Dylan Foley restored our lead in the 12th minute but two Dungarvan points put them ahead 1-4 to 1-3 after sixteen minutes. Shane Ryan equalised a minute later after being set up by John Mullane and we were back in front when Shane McNulty sent over a long range free after he was fouled himself. Further points followed from Stephen Daniels and John Mullane before good work by Jack Fagan and Eoin Madigan created the chance for Shane Ryan to send a ground stroke to the corner of the net. Shane then pointed a free after Eddie Barrett was fouled and points by John Mullane and Kevin Moran had us ahead 2-10 to 1-4 after twenty three minutes. Dungarvan replied with two points but we then got our third goal when Tom Moran and Jack Fagan combined for Shane Ryan to batt a high ball to the net at full stretch in the 26th minute. Back came Dungarvan to score three late frees to make the half time score 3-10 to 1-9 in our favour.
Recent injury victim Jake Dillon was introduced at half time and he made an immediate impact winning a free in the second minute which Shane Ryan pointed. Dungarvan replied but Shane Ryan added two more from a free and a sideline cut. Dungarvan pointed again in the 10th minute but a minute later we got our fourth goal when Kevin Moran surged through the middle before giving to Eoin Madigan who shot low to the net. An exchange of points involving Jake Dillon followed and then Dungarvan added two further points. Eoin Madigan pointed at the midway point of the half to make it 4-15 to 1-14. Dungarvan pointed in the 17th minute and we replied through a Shane Ryan free after Adam Farrell was fouled in the 22nd minute. Dungarvan then pointed twice but we replied with four in a row from Shane Ryan (3) and Adam Farrell to make it 4-20 to 1-17 entering injury time. Credit to Dungarvan for continuing to battle and after Shaun O’Brien first denied them a goal with a fine save they managed to get in twice to goal from close range in the 32nd and 34th minutes.

East Intermediate Hurling Championship
Butlerstown 2-16 De La Salle 0-13
A poor second half performance saw our intermediate hurlers go from winning by three points at half time to suffering a nine point defeat in this opening round game played in Walsh Park last Saturday night. Fielding a very young team with eleven players U-21 we were unable to deal with the more experienced and stronger Butlerstown side as the game progressed. On a positive note minor players Donal Carey, Thomas Douglas and Sean Carton got their first taste of adult action and in particular it was good to see Thomas play his first full game after recent surgery
The early exchanges were even enough and points from Brian Cunningham and Gavin Coppinger saw the sides level after six minutes. Points from Evan Whelan and Eoin Casey had us ahead by the 13th minute before a Butlerstown point made it 0-4 to 0-3 midway through the half. Lee Wall then came forward to score a fine point and Brian Cunningham pointed a free after a foul on Thomas Douglas. Butlerstown replied with a point but two Brian Cunningham frees and one from play by Thomas Douglas gave us a five point lead before two late points by Butlerstown made it 0-9 to 0-6 at half time. Butlerstown got the ideal start to the second half when a defensive error allowed them find the net. We responded well and points from a Brian Cunningham free and 65’ added to one from Mikey Costigan made it 0-12 to 1-6 after six minutes. Butlerstown then took control and hit four points in a row to take the lead in the 12th minute. The game’s decisive action came at the midway point when Thomas Douglas’ shot for goal was brilliantly saved by the keeper and Butlerstown came down the field and scored a deflected goal. Butlerstown then added five points in a row in a period where we spurned two goal chances and missed a couple of frees. Brian Cunningham ended our scoring in the 30th minute and Butlerstown had the final say with a point in the 35th minute for a deserved victory.
Scorers: Brian Cunningham 0-7 (0-5 frees, 0-1 ‘65), Gavin Coppinger, Evan Whelan, Eoin Casey, Lee Wall, Thomas Douglas and Mikey Costigan 0-1 each.

County U-14 Division 2 Football Championship
We continued our progress in Division 2 of the U-14 football championship with a 7-7 to 2-6 win over Portlaw /Ballyduff at Cleaboy on Saturday last. This was not as one sided a game as the scoreline suggests and were it not for the excellence of Conor Cummins in goal, the result could have been somewhat different. We lead 5-5 to 1-2 at halftime and two early second half goals appeared to have put the game to bed. However our visitors continued to chip away at our lead and were unfortunate not to add a couple of more scores. We finished with two points to earn a somewhat fortuitous victory.
Panel: Conor Cummins, Kieran O'Sullivan, Daire Treacy , Daire O'Keefe, Jack Twomey, Evan Hayes, Jack Cox, Dylan Stickel, Sultan Andnekan, Oisin O'Connor, Josh Kelly, Conor O'Shea, Cormac Dawson, Conor Keane, Emanuel Yartery.
