East Intermediate Football Championship
De La Salle 0-17 John Mitchells 1-10
Our intermediate footballers made a positive start to this year’s championship when we defeated John Mitchells in Carrickbeg last Friday night. It was a game in which we played some decent football and led for the most part of the game until we found ourselves a point in arrears with eight minutes to go but we recovered to finish deserving winners.
John Mitchells opened the scoring in the first minute but the excellent Paddy Kennedy replied immediately. Further points in the third and fourth minutes from John Mullane and Lee Hayes put us ahead before John Mitchells pointed in the ninth minute. An exchange of points involving a Colm Morris free after Paddy Kennedy was fouled was followed by two points from Paddy Kennedy to have us ahead 0-6 to 0-3 midway through the half. We stretched our lead to five points through David Kennedy and Lee Hayes by the 23rd minute. Both sides added two points to their tallies before the break with ours coming from a Paddy Kennedy free after Dylan Foley was fouled and Colm Morris to make it 0-10 to 0-5.
We began the second half with a John Mullane point inside twenty seconds and we were out of luck in the seventh minute when after a surging run Kenneth Byrne’s shot for goal came back off the woodwork. John Mitchells pointed twice before Colm Morris pointed with a shot that just rose over the crossbar to make it 0-12 to 0-7 with quarter of an hour left. John Mitchells then struck a purple patch scoring 1-3 in five minutes to lead 1-10 to 0-12. We equalised in the 27th minute when Paddy Kennedy pointed a free after Colm Morris was fouled and from the kick out Colm Morris restored our lead. Joey Twomey pointed in the first minute of injury time and Paddy Kennedy added two points in the 34th and 35th minutes to ensure victory.
Scorers: Paddy Kennedy 0-7 (0-4 frees), Colm Morris 0-4 (0-1 free), John Mullane and Lee Hayes 0-2 each, David Kennedy and Joey Twomey 0-1 each.

Feile na nGael
Mount Sion 2-5 De La Salle 2-3
Hard luck to our understrength U-14 hurlers who were narrowly beaten by 2 points in the Feile na nGael qualifiers in Gracedieu last Thursday. A poor first half in which our young forward line failed to come to grips with our opponents playing seven defenders in a sweeper system saw us trail 2-3 to 0-1 at the break. Mount Sion added two further points early in the second half but our lads showed great determination to close the gap to two points. We had a chance from a late free taken short but the shot hit the outside of the post and went wide which ensured Mount Sion’s merited victory.
Scorers: Jack Twomey and Alex Keane 1-0 each, Josh Kelly 0-2, Cormac Dawson 0-1.
Panel: Daire Treacy, Alex Hoban McGuire, Conor Cummins, Glen Buckley, Jack Cox, Alex Keane, Conor O'Shea, Sultan Andnekan,, Kieran O'Sullivan, Josh Kelly, Cormac Dawson, Ben O’Neill, Jack Twomey, Kieran Kennedy, Conor Keane, Daniel Lawlor, Owen Oseni, Niall Dawson, Jack Kavanagh, Sean Oleyumi.
County Minor Football Championship
We hosted our second home game of the Minor football championship on Saturday last against a very good and well marshalled Ballinacourty team. Even though we were missing a number of players due to injury and work commitments we still fielded a strong team. Playing with the wind in the first half we started a little slow and conceded a couple of early scores including a fortuitous goal from our opponents. After weathering this opening period both Eoghan McGrath Butler and Seaghan Walsh lead the way in lifting the early siege culminating in some good openings the best of which were two well executed goals by both Chris Kong and Sam Flynn who both had excellent games throughout. The half time whistle arrived with us trailing by 4 points.
Ballincourty increased the tempo of their game in the second half with some well executed scores but to be fair to our lads they never gave up and defended very well right to the end. Darron Kenneally and Alex Casey can be pleased with their performances after making their debuts this season as too can Sean Carton and Dan Casey who defended stoutly throughout.
Panel: Donal Carey, Darron Kenneally, Peter Grogan, Sean Connolly, Eoghan McGrath Butler, Sean Carton, Dan Casey, Sam Flynn, Luke Flynn, Seaghan Walsh, Kevin Hennessy, Alex Casey, Aidan Gannon, Chris Kong, Stephen Power.

Condolences
In the past week the death occurred in Dublin of our former selector and coach Noel Kennedy. Noel was very active in the club in the seventies as a coach and was a selector in a county minor football winning team. His employment with C.I.E. eventually took him to Dublin but the family link with the club remains as his great grandson Kieran lined out in our Feile hurling match last week. We extend our sympathy to the Kennedy family. We also extend our sympathy to the family of Jimmy McGuinness who passed away last week. Jimmy was always a good supporter of our club and his grandsons played for our juvenile teams. Ar dheis Dé go raibh siad
