Everyone in De La Salle GAA and Camogie are deeply saddened to hear of the death of our beloved former Chairman Seamus Quirke, RIP.

Seamus first got involved with the club when his son James came to play with De La Salle and went on to give over 30 years of service to our club serving in numerous capacities from Hurling in the Yard in St Stephens to Underage Team Manager, Juvenile Chairperson, Adult Chairperson, Board Rep to name but a few.

However, he will be remembered mainly for his role as Club Chairperson during a period of major change and unprecented success for De La Salle GAA Club.

Seamus was a visionary and oversaw one of the most successful periods ever in the history of our juvenile club and followed through with this to senior level.
He was also deeply involved in projects like the move to and development of our Gracedieu Complex and the formation of our Camogie Club in 2008.

Coming from Piltown, Co Kilkenny, Seamus loved the game of hurling and was a very knowledgeable and an astute selector.
His contribution to Waterford GAA was also significant, serving as underage manager from u14 up to u18, Chairperson of Bord na nÓg, Chairperson of Walsh Park, Chairperson of the County Hearings Committee, Board Delegate and served also on numerous County Board sub committees.

Seamus was never afraid to speak up and offer his opinion or advice and he effectively articulated the interests of De La Salle GAA at county board meetings for many years
Apart from being a leader Seamus was also a very kind and generous person and was seen as a father figure to most of the young players who grew up in his era. Whether it was putting his hand around players to comfort them after losses, or celebrating their victories with his big hearty laugh Seamus was very much a people and players person, as can be seen from the photo selection of beautiful memories he has left us.

Seamus was above all a great family man. He lived for his wife Hannah and their family and took great pride in the many achievements of his children and grandchildren.
One of his greatest sources of pride was in the performances on the field of his only son James who played for club at all levels and wore the De La Salle Jersey with distinction. His daughter Siobhan is also a fantastic supporter of of our Club Family days.

All our lives have been enriched by being lucky to have met and worked with you Seamus. Your passing has left a massive void in our club but we have fond memories and stories of great times spent together.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Hannah and our thoughts are with all the Quirke family at this sad challenging time
