SENIOR HURLING

The Championship draw sees us in a Group with Mount Sion & Dungarvan and we can’t wait for these enthralling encounters. Shane McNulty, Jack Fagan & Shaun O’ Brien were on County duty going down unfortunately to a flurry of Cork goals. Fifty minutes in, Shane took a side-line ball from Austin Gleeson on the half way line to send it over the bar and Jack won a puck out to take a fine point to leave us 18 points to Cork’s 2-18 going into the final quarter. Well Done Lads.

STORIES FROM LA SALLE

SUMMER 2003 - THE DOUBLE: Summer 2003 was a memorable one for the our U14 hurlers and footballers. We won the qualifying competitions in Waterford to represent the county in the All-Ireland finals of Féile na nGeal (hurling) and Féile na nÓg (football). In early June, the hurlers travelled to Kildare. We beat Celbridge and then accounted for all opponents we met in both Meath and Westmeath. We had a brilliant win in the final against Ballyboden St Endas of Dublin, which was played in Cusack Park, Mullingar. The scenes of jubilation were amazing.

A short five weeks later, virtually the same panel of players left the DLS Centre at 6am on Friday, June 11th heading for Galway to compete in Féile na nÓg. Milltown were up first. As a well-tried unit, the starting line-up was to be the same all weekend: Jamie Coll, Óran Keevers, Alan O Neill, Stephen Daniels, Tony Kelly, Kevin Gahan, Craig Kelly, Mitchell Casey (captain), David Kennedy, Eddie Barrett, Paddy Kennedy, Paul Farrelly, Tommo Moore, Craig Moloney and Keith Cooney. Subs: Keith Winters, Stephen McCarthy, Éamon Fitzgerald, Niall Walsh, Mark Joy Kinsella, David Stone, Patrick McGuinness, Patrick Lynn and Paul Gahan. We started well which allowed all nine subs coming on at half-time, and finished on a score line of De la Salle 2-17, Milltown 2-2. The following morning we played Cortoon Shamrocks. Once again, all 24 players contributed to a winning score line of 5-10 to 1-1. St John's of Sligo, our next opponents, watched the game. They played an extra defender against us, but we came out on top, 5-2 to 1-1. Our semi-final was against Monivea Abbey of Galway. The boys played fabulous football, impressing the large crowd of supporters. The game ended Monivea Abbey 0-7, DLS 7-11. The lads enjoyed the disco in Milltown that night! St. John's of Carlow were our opponents in the final in Pearse Stadium in Galway on the Sunday. The lads were flying and won on a score line of 5-10 to St. John's 1-2. The double had been achieved for only the third time in the history of the competitions! An exhausted but delighted team and their mentors Eddie Cooney, Tommy Moore, Lee Hayes, Jim Keevers and Jackie Daniels (first aid) arrived back to great celebrations in The Centre. (Jim Keevers)
