On Friday, the younger members were delighted to see Jan O’ Dwyer & Jonathan Flynn from our juvenile club sponsors St Dominic’s Credit Union arrive with some refreshments & treats for the last day, thank you. There’s some great shots & videos on our social media.

#TALESFROMDELASALLE
Did you know that 32 years ago, on July 15th, 1989, a party of 48 club members and players departed for a trip to the USA and Canada? This was indeed a memorable trip which included the major attractions in New York and visits to Albany, Rochester and Toronto. Highlights also included visits to Lake Ontario, Niagara Falls and the Sky Dome and CN Tower in Toronto. Of course, there were several hurling games played during the tour. With the first game in Rochester (Waterford’s Sister City) and was attended by the Mayor of Rochester. This exhibition game consisted of two teams made up of DLS players. Team 1. Johnny Keane, Oisín Ryan RIP, Davy Duggan, Mick Lane, Micko Casey, Joey Carton, Mick Murphy, Joe Mulcair, Tom O’Leary, Capt., Tommy Madigan, M. Cooper. Team 2. Dónal Treacy, Trevor Clooney, Owen Dunphy, Jim Dalton, Ger Lowry, Johnny Walsh, Michael Brenner, Alan ‘’Jack’’ Duggan, Eamonn FitzGerald Capt., Iain Treacy, John Walsh. Referee: John Jacob DLS
The second game took place in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York City. The opposition on this occasion was provided by WRTC (now WIT) who were also touring in the USA at this time. This turned out to be a keenly contested game with DLS winning out on a score line that read DLS 3-5 WRTC 0-7. Team: Johnny Keane, Oisín Ryan RIP Capt., Trevor Clooney, Joe Mulcair, Jim Dalton, Owen Dunphy, Mick Lane, Mick Murphy, Johnny Walsh, Noel Dalton Micko Casey, Joey Carton, Davy Duggan, Tom O’Leary, Eamonn FitzGerald, Subs: Dónal Treacy, Alan ‘’Jack’’ Duggan, Iain Treacy, Tommy Madigan. Referee: John Jacob DLS
The third and final game took place again in Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx and the opposition on this occasion was the Waterford GAA Club, New York. This was again a fine game of hurling and ended in a draw, DLS 3-6 Waterford 1-12. The trip was organised by Seán Power of Harvey Travel and was an outstanding success for our club. Indeed, the club benefitted enormously from the bonds of friendship created at that time. Many who were part of that group have been stalwarts of the club in the intervening years.
