CAMOGIE

Some nice photos on our social media of our U10 girls who played Butlerstown recently in a challenge, well done to both teams. Well-done to 34 of our u12 girls on a great afternoon of Camogie in the SETU Arena for the Waterford Tesco u12 fun blitz. Both De La Salle red & white squads performed brilliantly throughout all their games. Many thanks to all the parents for giving up their Sunday to bring the girls & for all the support throughout the year with many highlights & great memories to look back on. Keep practicing girls, all the hard work is certainly paying off. Well done to our club girls Niamh, Abbie & Alex for helping with the refereeing of some of the games. Congrats to Erins Own LGFA U13s who won Div 4 Cup over the weekend, but especially to our DLS camogie girls Caoimhe, Lauren, Eve, Jodie, Jayne, & Erin coached by Eddie Mulligan. All the girls had a great game!

U-15 HURLING

Huge well done to our u-15 Hurlers who beat Mt. Sion in the County Semi Final on Tuesday last in WIT on a score line of 3-12 : 2-08.

Leading comfortably at the break by 2-05 : 1-04 the lads continued to dominate and were full value for the win. An excellent performance from every one of the lads.

We take on Ballygunner on the County Final this coming Saturday, Sept 24th, at 11:00 in Walsh Park and would ask for a big support for the lads on the day. They have worked extremely hard this year and we wish the lads and the management team the very best of luck!

Nursery

Our Nursery programme for new hurling beginners recommenced over the weekend. All boys born in 2016 and 2017 are invited to come along to our Gracedieu Grounds (Eircode X91NHE6) on Saturdays at 11.30am. The session will be delivered by fully qualified coaches, with the emphasis always on fun/enjoyment and making new friends. It will finish at 12,30pm. If you have a hurley and helmet, bring them along but if not, we will provide them.

Miss Byrne's Senior Infants were learning some hurling skills in Stephen’s Stret School this week from Joey Carton. All the boys had great fun enjoying one of our national games. Well Done, Joey, a great follow on to the visit of our Minor Champions, many of whom went to school in Stephen’s Street.

Juveniles

Congrats to Emmett Power, U8 player of the week and to U7 hurler of the week Alex Power, both Gracedieu location, Keep up the great work Emmett & Alex. The weekend saw a great win for our u11 hurlers in the inaugural Kevin Kelleher tournament in Blarney Co Cork, with very impressive wins in all their games. Well Done boys, coaches, mentors and parents, great job! Our U15 Hurlers had a great win in the County Semi Final beating Mount Sion 3-12 to 2-08 in the SETU Arena mid-week. This now sees them play Ballygunner in the County Final on Saturday 24th September at 11am in Walsh Park. Best Wishes boys, coaches, and mentors.

Minor Football

Our Minor Footballers continue their winning way with a good win over Tramore in Gracedieu, Sunday morning. Jack Twomey opened the scoring with a goal in the 7th minute followed in the 16th minute by a Rory Wymberry goal after Conor Keane switched play with a great combination also involving Jack Jacob. Jack Jacob also had a goal after a great save by the Tramore keeper to knock in the rebound. Daniel Goff played the first half on goal making two good saves in the first half, one just before the break that saw us 4-1 advantage to 2-4, at half time. Luke Winkle opened the scoring for us in the second half followed by a great through run by Conor Keane to point. We didn’t have it all our own way as Tramore came back to within two points before we reset our structure & took control of the game seeing Dylan Quinlan score a goal from the rebound after Daniel Lalor hit the post. Thanks to the spirit & Club pride of this fantastic minor team that saw early returns from injury, two matches same day & work rosters altered to turn out 15 of 1.Daniel Goff, 2.Ben O’ Neill, 3. Sean Burke, 4. Niall Dawson, 5.Jack Kavanagh, 6.JJ Cahill, 7.Rory Wymberry, 8.Daniel Lalor, 9.Sam Cheevers, 10.Luke Winkle, 11.Conor Keane, 12.Dylan Quinlan, 13.Jack Hennessy, 14.Jack Twomey & 15.Jack Jacob. Great play again in every position but also to get on score sheet in addition to the aforementioned were Sam Cheevers, Danial Lalor & Daniel Goff. Mid-week, the lads had a good Championship win beating Clashmore Kinsalebeg 2-14 to 0-07. Jack Hennessy was excellent on goal & pulled off two super saves to deny Clashmore certain looking goals. In every other position on the pitch, everyone performed with no gaps in work rate!

Intermediate Football

Hard Luck to our Intermediate Footballers who went down 0-5 to Mount Sion’s 1-13 in the Championship 1st Round. At half time we trailed by 8 points to 1, scored by Lorcan Dwyer in the 12th minute. Just before half time a goal mouth scramble saw Thomas Kearney emerge with the ball to the half time whistle & was consistent good physical defending for the game. The second half saw a more focused De La Salle making great play and good scoring opportunities with Eoghan McGrath Butler opening the scores. David Dennison pulled off a fantastic save in a 1:1 situation in 42nd minute to be followed shortly with a great effort by Tom Moran that could easily have been a goal & went over for a point. Mount Sion’s goal in the 54th minute, result of a defensive error, took the wind out of our sails as shortly after Denno made another great save. Our football master Lee Hayes came off the bench to take a beautiful 45m point from a wide angle after great through ball from Butler McGrath. Our last score was a great effort & point from Cormac McCann. A disappointing start to the campaign as the lads were closer than the score line reflects but with a football focus there’s better championship games ahead for this team
