AGM
Our first in person AGM in 3, was held last Wednesday 25/1/23. Congratulations were extended to our 3 county representatives on their involvement with the Waterford Senior Hurling Team and for winning a National League title. Senior Hurling: Jack Fagan, Shane McNulty, Shaun O’Brien Minor Hurling: Conor Keane, Jack Twomey, Daniel Lawlor Under 20 Hurling: Reuben Halloran. Billy O’Neill, Doc Dalton, Danny O’Byrne, Christy Russell, and John Galgey were thanked for all their time and effort maintaining the pitches and a special mention was also made to Michael Murphy and John Kelleher for all their help over the years. A special word of thanks was made to Noreen Cotter and Maureen Keane for all their efforts on the Deise Draw. During the year, the Club Lotto had a big winner with €20,000 going down under to Darren and Joyce Russell. The lotto would not be possible for the excellent work of Johnny Walsh, Olivia Russell, Charlotte Brenner, and James ‘Dano’ O Shea. Also, a very special word of thanks to Tommy Ryan for all his hard work with the on-line section of the lotto. Eddie Mulligan was thanked for the fantastic work as club PRO, with huge increases in exposure online with Facebook, twitter, and Instagram and in the local newspapers. The club also thanked Eddie, Ellen, and Tommy for keeping our members always informed throughout the year on the club’s events, matches and day to day news on social media and Clubzapp.
The new floodlighting and ball stop netting was opened by Seamus Quirke and is now ready for use with considerable funding for the project received appreciably from Tomar Trust and DTTAS. The remaining funding came from income from the Monopole in Cleaboy, GAA Loan and our own Donations Scheme. Two additions to the project are a 50m Astroturf running hill and a 400m walking/jogging track around the training pitch. A special word of thanks to Waterford City Council for their grant towards the walking track.
A recount of all our Club teams activities was presented. The Senior management team of Ian Flynn, Donal O Rourke, Bryan Phelan, and Allen Dillon were thanked and extended best wishes for the coming year and appreciation extended to Tony Sullivan and Joey O Brien for looking after the strength and conditioning on the team. The backroom team of Peter Hearne, Paddy Kennedy, Matthew Barden, Tommy Ryan, and Alan Duke, were also mentioned with appreciation extended to
Micko Casey, Michael Sullivan, and Joe Kenny for all their work as physios and treatments with the various teams.. Also, special mention to Lorraine Duke who maintains the jerseys so well for us all year round. Matthew Barden, Peter Hearne, and Paddy Kennedy were thanked for all their work with the Intermediate team as were Joe Kenny, Micko Casey, and Don Lalor for their provision of medical cover on various days. In intermediate footballer thanks were extended to Kenneth Byrne and his backroom team who looked after the team this year and to Joe Kenny and Michael Casey for first aid. In Junior Hurling, thanks were extended to manager Paudi Brosnan and his backroom team of Lee Casey, Willie Power, and Johnny Walsh for their efforts throughout the year. The U20 County Champions were congratulated, and thanks extended to Ian Flynn, Peter Hearne, Bryan Phelan, and Lee Casey. Our minor hurlers were congratulated on their historic Championship double and in hurling thanks were extended to the management team of Mark Douglas, Paudi Brosnan, Lee Casey, Denny O Connor, and Jake Dillon with Donny Lawlor on first aid and in football of Eddie Mulligan, Don Lalor, Lee Hayes, and Joe Keane.
Our juvenile Club was very active with a new programme of progression introduced for hurling and a similar review of the football structures underway. In hurling we fielded teams in Under 11, U 12, U 13 in both And B competitions. We fielded 1 team in each grade at U 14, U 15, U 17 level. All teams have been very competitive with League and Championship wins at U 11 and U 17. County final appearances at shield and Championship level at U13 U14 and U15, respectively. There was semi-final participation at U 12 level. In football we fielded teams at U 13, U 15 level and the obvious big one was the U 17 football County champions. Gratitude was expressed to the juvenile committee, all the coaches and Billy O Neill by the Juvenile Chair Paudie Brosnan.
Our Camogie Club continues to go from strength with the senior team winning the Senior County title for the very first time in its history. As well as this they became the first Waterford camogie club to play in the Senior Club Championship. A huge well done was extended to the entire panel, management team of Conor O’Toole, John Mullane, Stewart Murphy, Joey Carton, Derek Healy, and the first aid and backroom team. Some notable senior achievements were recounted; 3 All Star Nominations Abby Flynn, Beth Carton & Brianna O Regan, 1 All Star Award Beth Carton, her 3rd in total; 2 WLRFM/ Granville Hotel monthly award winners Keeley Corbett Barry & Beth Carton. Beth Carton the overall winner “3 in a row” 2018, 2019 & 2022; Ashbourne Cup Winners DCU - Abby Flynn; U12A & C county champions; U13A county champions; U14A & C semi-finalists; U15B county finalists; U16A county finalists; U18A (final tbc in 2023); Numerous girls on various Inter County Camogie squads - U14,15,16,18, Junior & Senior.
The success of the Community Committee under the chair ship of Suzanne Wymberry since its establishment in March 2021, was complimented and have made massive strides in rebuilding the De La Salle community in the aftermath of the pandemic. Some of the initiatives that the Committee have brought to bear are; Family Day, Dinner Dance, DLS Babies, Wednesday Night Complimentary Refreshments, Coffee Machine, GAA Healthy Clubs, Heathy Minds Initiative, Walk on Wednesday, Increased Outdoor Seating in Club, Biodiversity - Became GAA Green Club, Reduce of Single Use Plastic Initiative with Waterford Council with bespoke DLS reusable Water Bottles. This committee plays a huge role in developing all aspects of the club and relationships into the community and thanks was extended to this hugely energetic group of people; Don Lalor, Aideen O Connor, Ricky Grogan, Deirdre Byrne, Fran O' Callaghan, Lisa Mullaly, Jake Dillon, Beth Carton, Sheila Hall, Eddie Mulligan, and Suzanne Wymberry as Chair.
As we came to the end of another year appreciation was extended to the many people both in the club and at county level who have helped during the year. Appreciation was extended to our sponsors John Kelly Opel, DID Electrical, Netwatch Ireland, Arachas Insurance, St Dominic’s Credit Union and those who supported the club through Advertising, Sponsorship, Lotto, Déise Draw, Gracedieu Scheme, Fundraising etc. We also remembered those who have gone before us, especially in the last twelve months. Ar dheis Dé go raibh síad. Congratulations to Megan Duke, elected as new Club Secretary with all other Executive Committee members returned and a job of finding a new Chair. Accolades were presented from the floor on the fantastic work of Paul Keane and Seamus Quirke as they stood down from the positions of Chair and Secretary.
